Project Hero will collaborate on a new program with the Louisville VA to open a new Optum HUB Program at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY, it was announced today by John Wordin, CEO and founder of Project Hero.
The HUB program will service veterans throughout the Louisville area, and serve as a model for other HUB programs. Veterans Affairs will provide support services including space and clinicians to support and augment the effort. The program will support veterans affected by post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and other injuries to achieve rehabilitation, recovery and resilience in their daily lives.
“We are grateful for all of our partnerships that help Veterans live their best life,” said Martin Traxler, Robley Rex VA Medical Center Director. “Working with Project Hero will unite us all through healthy, physical activity and the “esprit de corps” they experienced while in uniform. We’re excited by this approach to health and wellness. We are honored to be working with Project Hero. Project Hero has already made a difference in my life personally.”
“The collaboration with Project Hero is about creating community, camaraderie and support for our veterans, first responders and their friends and family,” said Sonny Hatfield, Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist. “The VA is committed to wholeness and wellness of our veterans and their families. Cycling in all its forms and varying levels is the next exciting venture we are taking.”
Research has shown that Project Hero HUB programs produce significant positive results for participants, including:
“Working in support of local healing heroes with a focus on mental health, suicide prevention, and resilience, our goal is to work with the VA to improve the lives of America’s finest, increase resilience, and promote recovery among all participants,” said Wordin.
Project Hero HUB Community programs provide a full spectrum of services by focusing on rehabilitation, education, employment, family support and community service.
Among other programs, Project Hero created the #NoVetAlone national support network for all who serve as a resource that provides opportunities for peer-to-peer support and mentorship and increases opportunities to connect in local communities, especially in rural areas.
