2018 UnitedHealthcare Texas Challenge

ABOUT THE RIDE

Everything is BIG in Texas, so this event should not disappoint, from the start in San Antonio to the finish at Bell Helicopter in Ft Worth. Witness an iconic day when supporters lining the streets of Fort Hood to cheer on our riders. Healing Heroes from the Center for the Intrepid, Ft. Bliss, and Ft. Hood are also expected to participate in this iconic ride.

 

This ride is a Category: Medium (Somewhat Difficult)

 

PARTICIPATION

Full week Challenge Events  will be limited to 150 participants. Selected participants will receive a Project Hero Challenge jersey and bib, socks, and t-shirt, as well as housing, rider support, luggage transportation (50 lbs max), daily route guides, marked course, rest stops, hydration, nutrition and meals. There may also be entertainment on selected evenings.

 

All Wounded Warriors ride for free by invitation only and must register to be considered.  See below for invitation criteria.

 

A $4,000 fee/fundraising minimum to cover the cost of the ride applies to all public riders. There is an active duty military, non-injured veteran, or VA employee discount of 50%. The required $80 registration fee will be applied towards your fundraising minimum.

 

To participate in the Challenge, please select your participation type at the top to begin your registration. Please note that your online registration does not guarantee you a slot on the ride. Participation is by invitation only for all to attend. Contact your Project Hero Manager with any questions or info@projecthero.org.

 

INVITATION CRITERIA

Invitational criteria may be based on one or more of the following:

1. Category (difficulty) of the ride

2. Participant's ability to successfully complete the ride

3. Participant's past history on Challenges

4. Participation in Project Hero Community Centers and/or Project Hero’s Strava Clubs

5. Amount raised through rider page

 

Based on the above criteria, all participants will receive either an invitation email or waitlist email. Invited participants will have one week to confirm participation before moving to the waitlist. With limited spots, participants on the waitlist will fulfill any spots that open along the way. 

 

SINGLE DAY RIDE

Unable to join us for the entire ride? Come share the road with us as a single day rider! Single day riders receive a t-shirt, Project Hero Challenge jersey, mechanical support, and hydration/nutrition. Registration is $125 per day for you to join Project Hero on the road. Space is limited, so please register early to guarantee your spot.  

 

VOLUNTEERS

All volunteers and caregivers must register online. If you are interested in volunteering or joining us as a caregiver, please sign up here. A Project Hero staff member will reach out to confirm your participation and role.  Please note that signing up as a  volunteer or a caregiver does not guarantee you a spot on a Challenge. Volunteers and caregivers are chosen based on specific needs for each ride. Please contact us with any questions at info@projecthero.org.
